How Much Do Hair Extensions Cost?
The honest answer is this: hair extensions do not have one set price.
The cost depends on the quality of the hair, the amount of hair needed, the method used, the density of your natural hair, the condition of your scalp, the colour work required, the installation plan and the experience of the person installing them.
At Sorelle of Hair, pricing is confirmed at your consultation because extensions should never be quoted without first looking at your natural hair.
Your hair density needs to be measured.
Your scalp needs to be assessed.
Your colour needs to be matched.
Your lifestyle needs to be considered.
Your long-term hair goal needs to be understood.
Hair extensions are not just about adding hair. They are about creating a result that looks natural, feels comfortable, grows out cleanly and protects your natural hair.
That requires a plan.
If you are in Mackay and considering hair extensions, you can start with our hair extension consultation so we can assess what your hair can safely support.
Why do hair extension prices vary so much?
Hair extension pricing can vary dramatically because not all hair, methods or extensionists are the same.
Some pricing is based on cheap hair and fast installation.
Some pricing is based on premium hair, density mapping, custom placement and long-term hair health.
Those are two very different services.
The main things that affect the cost of hair extensions are:
· the quality of the extension hair
· how many grams of hair are needed
· how many rows are required
· the method used
· your natural hair density
· your colour match
· whether custom colouring is needed
· whether you already have extensions installed
· whether correction work is required
· the experience of the extensionist
· ongoing maintenance
At Sorelle, we only install extensions with a plan. We do not install the same amount of hair on every client. We do not follow a trend and hope your scalp can cope with it.
Your natural hair tells us what is safe.
Hair quality is the biggest difference in extension pricing
This is the part many people do not understand.
The quality of the hair is one of the biggest reasons some extensions cost more than others.
Sorelle hair is European hair, sourced by a hair buyer. Each 50g packet contains hair from one donor. This matters because the hair behaves more naturally, blends better, and has a more consistent texture.
Cheaper hair can feel soft and silky when you first touch it. That does not always mean it is good quality. Many cheaper extensions are coated in silicone at the factory, which makes the hair feel smooth at first. After washing, that coating can start to wear away, and the hair may become dry, frizzy, rough or difficult to manage.
Cheaper hair may also contain hair from many different donors. In some cases, filler hair can be added. This can create mixed textures, uneven behaviour and poor blending with your natural hair.
That is why cheap extensions often look fine at the start, then quickly become obvious.
They stop moving like natural hair.
They become harder to style.
They do not blend properly.
They start looking like extensions, not hair.
Premium hair costs more upfront, but it is designed to last longer when cared for properly. Sorelle hair can last up to 12 months or more with the correct home hair care plan.

Guide pricing for Sorelle hair extensions
Pricing is confirmed at consultation, but as a guide, Sorelle hair extension investments are:
|
Hair amount |
Guide investment |
|
50g |
$680 |
|
100g |
$1280 |
|
150g |
$1680 |
|
200g |
$1980 |
These prices are a guide only because the correct amount of hair depends on your natural hair density, desired result and what can safely be installed.
We only offer one length: 22 inches.
The amount of hair used is not chosen because someone wants “more.” It is chosen based on what your natural hair and scalp can support.
More hair is not always better.
More hair is not always safer.
More hair does not always look more natural.
The right amount of hair is the amount that creates the result while respecting the natural hair underneath.
Fine hair often needs less hair, not more
One of the most common things I see is fine hair clients thinking they need a lot of hair to make a difference.
In many cases, they do not.
For fine hair clients, one row with 50g can make the biggest difference. It can add softness, shape, fullness and confidence without overloading the scalp.
This is where experience matters.
A less experienced extensionist may look at a client’s dream photo and try to recreate it by adding more hair. A safer approach is to look at the client’s natural hair first and ask:
What can this hair actually support?
Where is the density strongest?
Where is the hair more fragile?
How much weight is safe?
What placement will grow out cleanly?
What will still look natural in six weeks?
I have had fine hair clients cry happy tears when they see the final result. Not because they suddenly have the most hair in the room, but because they finally feel like themselves again.
They have told me it feels life-changing.
That is what good hair extensions can do when they are planned properly.

Why a consultation is required before installation
At Sorelle, a consultation is required before every new installation.
This is not optional.
Your consultation is where we:
· assess your natural hair
· measure your density
· check your scalp
· discuss your hair goals
· colour match your extensions
· decide how many grams are safe
· decide how many rows are suitable
· explain the method
· discuss custom colouring if needed
· quote the correct investment
· create your install and maintenance plan
Extensions should not be installed without understanding the hair they are being attached to.
If you already have extensions from another salon, I am happy to service them. However, I will still re-map and reassess the installation. I need to know whether the amount of hair, sectioning, row placement and method are suitable for your natural density.
Just because extensions are already in your hair does not mean they are right for your hair.

Custom colouring can affect the final price
Colour matching is a major part of creating natural-looking extensions.
Sometimes the best result can be achieved by mixing extension colours. Other times, custom colouring may be needed on the extensions, the natural hair, or both.
This is another reason pricing cannot be guessed properly through a message.
A good colour match should not look like two different heads of hair. The extensions should work with your natural colour, not fight against it.
Cheap extensions can be difficult to colour because the results can be uneven and unpredictable. That is one of the reasons I will not install cheap hair. I cannot risk my name on hair that I would not personally be happy wearing.
Why cheap hair extensions can become expensive
The cheapest option can become the most expensive mistake.
I have seen poor extension work cause breakage, matting and bald spots. I have also seen installs that look beautiful in after photos but are poorly placed underneath.
The after photo is not the whole story.
What you do not see matters more:
· the sectioning
· the row placement
· the stitching
· the bead placement
· the scalp tension
· the weight distribution
· the grow-out
· the maintenance plan
· the natural hair underneath
When extensions are not installed correctly, they can put uneven weight on the starting points. If maintenance appointments are stretched too long, matting can occur. If too much hair is installed on fine or fragile hair, breakage can happen.
A beautiful photo means very little if the natural hair is suffering underneath.
Before choosing a salon, research the extensionist. Ask about their experience. Ask about their qualifications. Look at their sectioning, placement and grow-out, not just their after photos.
Hair extensions should never cost you your natural hair.
Why Sorelle maintenance costs more
My maintenance pricing is higher than some local stylists.
That is intentional.
My price reflects my experience, my installation method and the level of detail involved in maintaining the rows safely.
At Sorelle, rows are structured to the shape of the client’s head and their natural density. I do not do the same extension installation on every person.
I am a qualified hairdresser, but I only specialise in hair extensions. I am a Master Hair Extensionist, and my work is focused on safe, natural-looking, long-term extension results.
Maintenance is not just moving hair up.
It is checking the scalp.
Checking the grow-out.
Checking the stitching.
Checking the weight.
Checking the natural hair.
Checking the home care.
Checking whether the plan still suits the client.
Your maintenance appointment protects your result and your natural hair.

Premium extensions can cost less over time
Premium hair extensions cost more initially, but they can be better value over time because the hair lasts longer and needs replacing less often.
Lower-quality hair often does not last. It can dry out, frizz, tangle, lose its finish and become obvious very quickly. That can mean replacing the hair sooner, paying for correction work, or dealing with damage to your natural hair.
Premium hair, installed correctly and cared for properly, gives you a better chance of:
· longer wear
· cleaner blending
· softer movement
· easier styling
· better maintenance
· less frequent replacement
· healthier natural hair underneath
The goal is not to trap you in extensions forever.
My goal is healthy, thicker, longer natural hair without extensions. Extensions are the tool we use to support that goal while your natural hair grows.
It is a process.
It is a journey.
And it needs to be done properly.
What should you ask before choosing hair extensions?
Before booking hair extensions, ask these questions:
1. What quality of hair do you use?
2. Where does the hair come from?
3. Is the hair one donor or mixed donor?
4. How long should the hair last?
5. What method do you recommend for my density?
6. How do you decide how many grams I need?
7. Do you measure density before installing?
8. Can I see the sectioning and row placement?
9. What happens at maintenance?
10. What qualifications and experience do you have?
Do not base your decision only on price.
Do not base it only on after photos.
Price should never be the first question. Safety, quality and experience should be.
So, how much do hair extensions cost?
Hair extensions can cost more or less depending on the hair, the method, the grams, the planning and the person installing them.
At Sorelle, pricing is confirmed at consultation because every head of hair is different.
As a guide, Sorelle hair extension investments range from 50g through to 200g, depending on what your natural hair can safely support.
But the real answer is this:
You are not just paying for hair.
You are paying for quality hair, professional planning, safe installation, correct placement, maintenance guidance, experience and accountability.
You are paying for someone who cares about the result, not just the money.
Hair extensions are an investment, but the right plan protects your natural hair.
The cheapest option can become the most expensive mistake.
